Bio:
We rescued Picasso in late May after he was struck by a car and left on the side of the road. The injuries sustained were quite severe - a spinal cord injury and fractured pelvis. We rushed him straight to VCSG where an MRI determined that he was not paralyzed but his prognosis was unknown due to the inflammation to his spinal cord close to his shoulders. For the first month, he had to be manually rotated and had very little mobility in his rear legs.
Picasso in all of his resilience has spent the last few months receiving rehabilitation at VCSG through their neurology and rehab departments and has been in foster care with their amazing neurology technician. He has received hydrotherapy and targeted muscle therapy to regain his strength and mobility. He was placed in a wheelchair and zoomed around great but then he really defied all of the odds and began to stand up on his own and the rest is history!
Picasso has been released from the care of VCSG and here is what his foster mom has to say about Picasso: “We feel that with a small amount of guidance to the right people, he could go to a forever home. His mobility is continuing to improve with minimal hands-on physical rehab (stretches) and daily physical activity. I have attached videos of him getting around well. He's also great around other dogs, he constantly wants to play with my big kids or any of the employee dogs he encounters at the hospital. We are still having to keep a close eye on one toe on the right rear leg (the weaker side) as he sometimes still scuffs it, but again he is doing this less and less frequently. We hardly ever use the wheel chair now.”
Stunning Picasso is a year old Springer Spaniel mix and his recovery has been nothing short of miraculous thanks to the care he has received from VCSG and his foster mom. We have received many videos of this boy, who was completely immobile, running and having the time of his life! We are so proud of his progress and so excited to announce his official adoption debut! Picasso is a happy, loyal, social, and grateful boy!
Picasso was neutered on 9/15 and is available to go to his forever home upon his vetting. Picasso is current on vaccines, heartworm negative, and up to date on preventatives.
If anyone is interested in adopting this most special boy, please contact us and we will arrange a meeting as soon as he is ready to go to his forever home.
Thank you to all of our supporters who helped us with the cost of Picasso’s MRI and initial emergency costs. Your generosity made this happen along with his dedicated care team. Picasso is one of countless reasons why we do what we do and will continue to help the underdogs and undercats!
